Saida Waheed FMH College of Nursing (SWCON) observed the 1st death anniversary of the Late Mrs. Nisab Akhtar at General Attiq-ur-Rehman Auditorium of Fatima Memorial Hospital. The Late Mrs. Nisab Akhtar was known as the “Mother of Nursing” in Pakistan;
She joined the nursing profession in 1949 on the behest of Mrs. Rana Liaquat Ali Khan who came to her school in Gujrat and motivated students to join the profession. She was the Director General of Nursing in Punjab and became the Director of Nursing of SWCON in 1998 and served the institution till her death in 2013.
She was the recipient of the pride of performance from the Government of Pakistan in 2007 for her outstanding contributions for the Nursing Profession in Pakistan. Internationally she received the Florence Nightingale Medal by International committee of Red Cross “Geneva” in 1993, Medal for Distinctive Services in Nursing by Soroptimist International Association and Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra Mahidol Award by The Govt. of Thailand in consideration of her services in the field of nursing & social services in 2007.
In recognition of her outstanding services at Saida Waheed FMH College of Nursing and Fatima Memorial System; an OSPE hall of FMH College of Medicine and Dentistry was renamed “The Nisab Akhtar OSPE hall” in her honor which was inaugurated at the memorial.

Mrs. Shahima Rehman – Chairperson , Executive Committee, Fatima Memorial System, Dr. Haroon Ihsan – Vice Chairman , Executive Committee, Fatima Memorial System, Mrs. Nisab Akhtar’s family, students and senior nursing professionals from across Pakistan.
Saida Waheed FMH College of Nursing began as school of Midwifery in 1978, and today is a private college for graduate and postgraduate training in the field of nursing. Its current multi-purpose campus is located in Shadman Lahore, Pakistan. The college is part of the Fatima Memorial System, registered with Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC), one of the only three schools of nursing affiliated with University of Health Sciences (UHS), and approved by Ministry of Health: Fatima Memorial Hospital is attached as a training and teaching hospital.
